Here are some of our regular events:
Multicultural Canada Day Celebration
Every Canada Day (July 1) we organize a celebration of cultural diversity in Canada and Peterborough. At the event there are live performances of dance and music. There are also 40 vendors selling food and crafts from all over the world. This is the biggest event of the year for the New Canadians Centre. In 2013, over 8,000 people visited us at the park.
If you are interested in attending the Canada Day Multicultural Celebration, then please come to Del Crary Park (92 George St. North, Peterborough) on July 1st. For information about this year’s event, please check our Blog
If you are interested in volunteering, performing or participating as a vendor, then please contact the Community Coordinator.

International Dances and Potluck Dinners
Come to dance, enjoy great food, and meet wonderful people.
Do you want to meet more people in Peterborough? Would you like to meet more people from your native country? Do you love different types of food from different parts of the world? Do you want to learn Latin dance, or hear tunes from Africa? Then please come to our multicultural potlucks and international dances! The events are informal and do not require registration. Please check our Blog for times and places.
Women’s Group
A social and supportive group for immigrant women.
Join our women’s group for fun events. This social group invites all women to come together to discuss different topics, share ideas, and participate in social events. They are a great way to meet others and give support to new Canadian women. The meetings are informal and do not require registration. Please check our calendar for times and places.
Children’s Fun Club
Crafts, games, and fun for new Canadian children.
The NCC offers fun events for children during special weeks of the year, as well as P.A. days during the school year. Children aged 5-15 are invited to the New Canadians Centre to enjoy movies, crafts, games and music. This is a great way for your child to meet other children under the supervision of our experienced volunteers. Please contact the SWIS Coordinator for more information and to register your child in the program. Please check our calendar for times and places.
Homework/ESLYouth Group
Social time for immigrant youth, as well as extra help with school work and English for immigrant teenagers in high school.
Our Centre offers meetings for High School students who need extra help with their homework, or who would simply like to chat to practice their English. This is also a good time for new Canadian youth to meet each other and hang out after a long school day. The meetings are informal and do not require registration. Please check our calendar for times and places.
English/Spanish/French Conversation Classes
We offer conversation classes for newcomers and local residents to practice a new language. Participants should have some knowledge of the language before coming to the classes. These are a great way to practice with others in a welcoming and fun setting. The classes are informal and do not require registration. Spanish and French classes are open to NCC volunteers and members. Please check our calendar for times and places.
Group Trips
We have explored the Peterborough Petroglyphs, ridden bicycles to Lakefield, canoed Little Lake, taken a boat tour through the 1,000 Islands, visited Niagara Falls, and have seen a Blue Jays baseball game. If you have a good idea for a trip, then please let us know. Check our newsletter for times and places of events. Please check our Blog for times and places.
One World Dinner
The largest vegetarian potluck dinner in the world!
We are help to organize what could be the largest vegetarian potluck dinner in the world. We partner with Jamaican Self Help and Kawartha World Issues Centre to create this annual event. It is a way to raise funds and to promote the work of these three organizations. This event usually takes place the first weekend in February. Please check our Blog for times and locations.
