SWIS Program

SwisLogoPeterborough (4)

SWIS (Settlement Workers in Schools) helps families and students with settlement needs in Peterborough and the surrounding areas. Our team supports student achievement and encourages family involvement and integration in schools and community.

Principals and school staff may refer families to SWIS at registration or at any time during the school year. Parents and students may also contact SWIS directly.

SWIS can meet families at prearranged appointments at neighbourhood schools or the NCC offices. We connect with clients during Meet the SWIS drop-in events at schools and at other NCC or community events.

SWIS will serve all newcomers no matter their immigration status. SWIS can provide information about:

• Schools and Education

• Community Resources

• Immigration

• Language Training

• Health Services

• Family Support

• Transportation

• Recreation

• Housing

• Employment

SWIS (Settlement Workers in Schools) is a partnership of the New Canadians Centre Peterborough and the Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board and the Peterborough, Victoria Northumberland, and Clarington Catholic District School Board. SWIS is funded by Citizenship and Immigration Canada.
