The presentation will focus on the ways in which common co-morbid disorders can alter the appearance of learning and attention disorders, and can mimic
them. The discussion includes a practical approach to diagnosis and treatment of ADHD, Nonverbal Learning Disabilities (NLD), anxiety disorders, and Developmental Coordination Disorder (DCD).

Dr. R. Garth Smith completed training at The Hospital for Sick Kids in Toronto where he edited and co-authored the world-famous Hospital for Sick Kids Residents’ Manual. Following Neonatology at Women’s College Hospital in Toronto, he went into private practice, during which time he developed a special interest in Developmental and Behavioural Pediatrics. He completed further training at North Carolina, Chapel Hill in Developmental-Behavioural Pediatrics and
accepted a position at the Child Developmental Centre at Hotel Dieu Hospital in 1996. Currently he is the Medical Director of the Child Development Centre, Physician on the Pediatric Brain Injury Team and Associate Professor of Pediatrics at Queen’s University. He looks after children with ADHD and a variety of learning differences, neuromuscular disorders, Autism, and a range of neuro-developmental disorders.
